Garment Manufacturing Process Sequence

Garment industry is one of the leading industrial sectors in the world. Some countries like Bangladesh, Vietnam, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka apparel industry is the major export earning sector. In this article we will discuss on manufacturing sequence of garments. At first we give a line flow chart of garment manufacturing and then shortly describe of these steps in table.

A process flow chart helps to understand how raw materials are moved from one process to another process until raw materials are transformed into the desired product (garments). Typically, the apparel industry process flow starts from the process of getting an order from the buyer by the merchandiser. The process from fabric sourcing to dispatch of the goods to the customer is handled by different people with different responsibilities.

Production pattern
Then necessary allowance is added to the net dimension of the working patterns.

Grading
By following production pattern approved sample is normally for buyer required sizes. It may be S, M, L, XL, and XXL.

Marker making
For large scale production a marker is prepared.

Fabric spreading
In this stage fabrics are spread on the cutting table.

Cutting
In this stage fabrics are cut according to marker dimension.

Sorting & Bundling
All individual parts for a style are then sorted and numbering and finally bundled.

Inspection
In this stage parts checks and rejected if any faults found.

Sewing & Assembling
In this stage parts are joined by using sewing thread and needle.

In this stage sewing defects & measurement are checked.

Pressing & finishing
In this stage unwanted crease marks are removed & a beautiful look is obtained.

Final Inspection
This inspection may be done from buyer side or manufacturer side or both. This is also called pre-shipment inspection.
